A Half-Dozen Festive Ways to Celebrate National Donut Day

National Donut Day is celebrated each year on the first Friday of June, and we can’t resist the opportunity to enjoy all things donuts! Donuts are just one of the happiest little breakfast treats around, and we are 100% in on a day dedicated to these adorable and delicious little baked goodies. There is something so nostalgic about visiting a donut shop and peering into the display cases to pick out the perfect donut. If you love donuts as much as we do check out these festive ways to celebrate National Donut Day or have a whole donut themed week!

Have a Donut Picnic

This is one of the easiest ways to celebrate! Hit up your favorite donut shop and then head to a park nearby. Enjoy your donuts picnic style and then play off all the sugar. You can keep it simple with just your donuts and a picnic blanket or make it extra special by inviting friends to join you!

Read Donut Themed Books

A big stack of donut themed books pairs perfectly with a delicious plate of donuts! Here are our favorite donut themed books:

Dozens of Doughnuts by Carrie Finison

If You Give a Dog a Donut by Laura Numeroff

Donuts the Hole Story by David Miles

The Hole Story of the Doughnut by Pat Miller

Please Mr. Panda by Steve Antony

The Donut Chef by Bob Staake

Plant Donuts!

This is a favorite activity from when my kids were little. In fact, I realized recently that I never did this with my youngest, so we might have to do again this year. It’s super simple…make a little packet of “donut seeds” aka cheerios by putting them in an envelope or baggie. Have your kids help you plant the donut seeds and water them. Then a day or two later place mini donuts on bamboo skewers and press them into the ground where you originally planted the “seeds”. It’s a sweet little surprise, and funny to see how your kids respond!

Open a Play Donut Shop

My kids love to play donut shop! I bought a set of downloads like THIS one that has signs, menus and price lists, and they have used it over and over again. We cut and colored doughnuts out of cereal boxes, and they had a blast setting up the play room to look like a donut shop. They have since graduated to making real donuts, but they still love to set up a shop from time to time.

Make a Donut Delivery

Spread a little donut love by picking up extra donuts and delivering them to a fellow donut lover! Who wouldn’t love a surprise donut delivery to brighten their day?

Play GoNuts for Donuts

If you are looking for a fun game to add to the rotation this summer check out GoNuts for Donuts. It’s easy to play, a lot of fun and perfect for National Donut Day and all summer long!

Do you celebrate National Donut Day? What is your favorite type of donut?

A Big Donut Cheers to You!
