Chocolate Chip Day Fun

May 15th is National Chocolate Chip Day.  By now we all know that there is pretty much a “National” day for everything, and to be honest when they involve baked goods I’m here for it! It’s the perfect day to lift a chocolate chip cookie in celebration of Ruth Graves Wakefield of the Toll House Inn, the inventor of the chocolate chip cookie. Her recipe inspired Nestle to create the chocolate morsel, aka chocolate chip. So make (or buy) some chocolate chip cookies. I’ve use this recipe a couple times. It’s super quick and easy, and makes super soft cookies. And if you want to take your chocolate chip party up a notch, how about some cookie themed books? I’ve found that serving a special treat or snack with fun books is a great way to get my crew to sit and listen a little longer. And if you happened to miss National Chocolate Chip day, no worries, just pick another day to celebrate. So here is a round up of cookie theme books to enjoy: And the Doorbell RangThe Doorbell Rang This fun book I remember from my childhood combines sharing and division. If You Give a Mouse a CookieIf You Give a Mouse a Cookie Book A classic book that you can’t leave out on National Chocolate Chip Day. The Best Mouse CookieThe Best Mouse Cookie (If You Give...) This sweet book is a less popular Laura Numeroff book, but probably my favorite. Cookie Maker, Cookie BakerBaker, Baker, Cookie Maker (Sesame Street) (Step into Reading) by [Linda Hayward, Tom Brannon] A fun rhyming read my boys love read again and again. Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar There are so many versions of this fun nursery rhyme. How do Dinosaurs Eat CookiesHow Do Dinosaurs Eat Cookies? We haven’t read this one, but I’m confident the combination of dinosaurs and scratch and sniff would be a hit around here!
