Last year I posted THIS post with some history on May Day and some inspiration for some simple May Day baskets. My boys really enjoyed delivering the goodies, so we are excited to surprise our friends and neighbors again this year. Flowers are one of the items traditionally gifted on May Day, but the fun doesn’t have to stop there. You can include any little treat that might brighten someone’s day and celebrate the arrival of warmer weather and sunshine! If you’ve been around One Festive Mama for a hot second you know I have a deep love of themes, which I of course applied to the creation of our May Day baskets this year. I borrowed some ideas that I used last year, added a few items and updated my gift tags.

This year I went with a “Bubbles” or “bursting” theme. I made tags that say, “we hope your May is bursting with unexpected joys”. You can curate a basket that is more kid friendly, make it a special surprise for an adult or include a little bit for everyone. Here are some items that I included:
- Bubbles
- Bubble Gum
- Bubbly sparkling water
- starburst candy
- Champagne
- popcorn

Another fun and easy theme would be a “sweet” basket. The tag reads “May your May be full of sweet surprises”. This theme would be so easy! Anything sweet would be perfect—baked goods, candies and flowers all fit in this theme. If you aren’t sure how green a neighbor’s thumb is fresh flowers or a basket of sweet goodies are a safe bet.

I love the idea of creating a little spring-themed snack mix to gift. Mine included pretzels, cheddar bunnies, spring M&Ms, Chex cereal and gummy worms. Bag it is cellophane or sandwich bags and pair it with a sparkling water or a few flowers for a fun May Day gift.
Of course, you definitely do not need to use actual baskets for May Day gifting…small gift bags, paper lunch bags or just a ribbon will get the job done and keep the cost down.

May Day baskets really can be thrown together quickly! There are so many items that you could throw in a grocery pick-up order and be ready for basket delivery in no time. May Day gifts are such a fun way to sprinkle a little spring joy in your neck of the woods!

Who will you be blessing with some May Day goodies this year?
Happy May Day!
