Getting Festive: Halloween

Our Halloween books and decorations make an appearance in our home around the middle of October. We keep it pretty simple and very un-spooky…think smiling Jack O’ Lanterns and candy corn. I am sure someday soon my boys will be pushing for the scary stuff, but for now I’m just pretending that day will never come. img_6111 A few years ago I tied some fun Halloween fabric to some orange lights to make a fun garland. I also have a few dollar spot pumpkins and a free candy corn printable. One fun thing that I like to display is pictures from past Halloweens. My boys love to see pictures of themselves and this is a fun way to decorate. Last year I just backed them with orange and black scrapbook paper and taped them up—super easy! This year I have a fun project planned for Holiday pictures…so stay tuned! I also have a couple of craft projects from years prior that I like to display as decor. Our book collection always doubles as decor, and having them displayed tends to encourage more reading…win-win, right? Our Halloween book collection is also pretty tame…I tend to avoid too many ghosts and witches. Some of our favorites are:

  • Room on the Broom (I know I broke my own witch rule)
  • Pumpkin Trouble
  • It’s Pumpkin Day Mouse
  • Click, Clack Boo!
  • Little Blue Truck’s Halloween

Are go to Halloween Movies are:

  • Curious George Boofest
  • Room on the Broom
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Do you decorate for Halloween? What’s your style…spooky or cutesy?
