How to Throw an Audrey Hepburn Inspired Pajama-Glama Movie Night

I am a big fan of Audrey Hepburn. I just love her classy, beautiful style and her talent that just draws you in. For awhile now I have wanted to host an Audrey themed gathering. So, in honor of Audrey’s birthday (May 4th) I decided to have a pajama-glama movie night with my daughter! It turned out to be a really sweet way to connect- and she still talks about our “girls only movie night”! I hope that it is a tradition we continue for years to come.

What’s a Pajama-Glama Movie Night?

Basically, pajama-glama just means you add a little glamour to a pajama party! It’s comfort meets cute! It’s such a fun party theme for moms & daughters, a bachelorette party or a fun girls night in!

What to Wear

Miss Audrey is a style icon, known for her elegance. So an Audrey inspired pajama party must have a touch of class!

Matching pajamas would make for an extra special night, but that would definitely add up quickly. I love THESE mother-daughter matching pajamas for the occasion if you can swing it.

If you don’t provide pajamas, encourage everyone to wear their best jams and then add a few fun accessories. Of course, pearls are the perfect accessory when you are going for glam! I found our pearl necklaces on Amazon. There are so many options, and lots of price points. If the budget allows, you can provide pearl necklaces as a fun party favor!

Fancy hair clips and sleep masks reminiscent of Breakfast at Tiffany’s would also be super fun!

What to Watch

I have a hard time choosing a favorite Audrey Hepburn movie, I just can’t pick just one.

My top 5 would have to be:

  • Roman Holiday- Audrey’s debut film where she plays Princess Ann, a young Princess who becomes overwhelmed by the demands of her life and escapes the pressures of it by running away for an impromptu holiday in Rome.
  • Sabrina- Audrey plays the daughter of a chauffeur who falls in love with the families playboy son, and moves to Paris and returns home all grown up.
  • How to Steal a Million- Nicole, played by Audrey, is the daughter of an art collector and forger who goes to great lengths in this comedy to try to protect her father. Of course, she falls in love in the process.
  • Charade- Charade is a ‘Who dunnit?’ with Reggie, played by Audrey, trying to figure out who is friend and who is foe after she returns from a trip to discover her husband has been murdered.
  • Breakfast at Tiffany’s- Probably the most well known of Hepburn’s films. She plays Holly Golightly a quirky country girl turned Manhattan socialite who meets a struggling writer.

My daughter and I watched Roman Holiday at our first pajama-glama party. I was actually surprised that it held her attention the whole time- she was only three! Roman Holiday is definitely the most kid friendly of my favorite five.

What to Eat

For our first annual pajama-glama party I kept it really simple and we just munched on popcorn and chocolate bars- I loved these Gihradelli Sea Salt Caramel Chocolates because they are the perfect teal blue for an Audrey event! Did you know that Audrey’s favorite color was Cyan- a blueish green? She also loved chocolate, she said it tasted like freedom. During WWII she and her family nearly starved to death, surviving on boiled tulip bulbs. When they were liberated a Canadian soldier gave her seven chocolate bars!

Other fun food ideas:

  • Croissants (a nod to Breakfast at Tiffany’s)
  • Vanilla Ice Cream with Maple Syrup- it’s said to be one of Audrey’s favorite treats.
  • Chocolate cake- Audrey is quoted to say, “let’s face it a good creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people”. This year, I’m excited to try Audrey’s flourless chocolate cake from At Home with Audrey.

A Few Fun Touches

I love setting out a few fun decorations to help pull the theme of an event together. Using Audrey pictures or quotes is the perfect way to set the mood. You could also use a bouquet of white tulips! Did you know Audrey had a white tulip variety named after her?

Last year I displayed our favorite children’s book about Audrey, Just Being Audrey, as well as THIS print I grabbed from Amazon.

This year I designed a few fun printables with my favorite Audrey quotes that you can put into frames and display at your event!

If you are looking for some more Audrey Hepburn inspiration, here are three novels with an Audrey twist that would be perfect for reading in May!

Have you ever watched an Audrey Hepburn movie? What is your favorite one?
