Making Memories: November

Somehow we already a week into November? I feel like it was just Halloween! I wanted to share a few festive ways to celebrate this month and make family memories before I am on here saying, “It’s already December, how did this happen?” November 17th National Family Pajama Night- Did you know there was such a thing? Me neither, but we don’t need an excuse to hang in our jammies! Movie night or game night, popcorn, snacks. Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Showing- We love watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving as a family, and of course there must be popcorn, toast, pretzels and jelly beans. Make a fun turkey themed meal. We’ve made turkeys out of pancakes and bacon, but I also think these cinnamon rolls would be a lot of fun, too. Go on a Gratitude Walk. Walk your neighborhood or a local trail and look for different sights, sounds and smells you are thankful for. Make a list of snap photos of the things you find. Start a daily gratitude practice as a family. There are a lot of ways to focus on gratitude this month. From a paper chain with things you are thankful for to placing notes in a jar. Lately I’ve started writing 10 things I’m thankful for each day and I’m amazed at how it has made me much more aware of the little blessings in my life. This is a practice I want to help my boys do year round. Do a turkey trot as a family. This year we are actually “hosting” a little pre-feast walk/jog. Nothing too intense we just invited friends and family to join us for some exercise and as a way to give back we are collecting donations for a charity. Write thank you notes. Spend an evening writing thank you notes to special people in your life as a family. Break out pretty paper, markers, and crayons. Light some candles and serve fun treats…some sure ways to get some buy in from the kiddos. Get in the kitchen and cook together. Try a new recipe out or have fun making a traditional recipe. We like to make my Grandmas pie crust recipe together and then cut it with cookie cutters and sprinkle it with cinnamon and sugar. Do you have any fun traditions this month? How will you be celebrating?
