National Park Birthday

We’ve always enjoyed visiting National Parks and exploring nature. During the last few months of quarantine we have spent a lot of time hiking local nature trails and studying the National Parks. We even slipped away and visited Hot Springs National Park for a little family trip. So when it came to a party theme for Grady’s 8th birthday, a national parks theme seemed like a perfect fit.

We planned on inviting just a couple of friends and staying outside to keep it lower risk as far as COVID goes so we decided on an outdoor showing of Yogi Bear. Unfortunately, it doesn’t get dark very early during the summer, so the movie portion didn’t happen. We will try again in the Fall when we don’t have to stay up quite so late to enjoy the show. My son his buddy didn’t mind, they enjoyed running around the yard anyways!

For the refreshments I served popcorn and mix-ins: sticks (pretzels), goldfish (rainbow trout), bears (gummy bears) and chocolate chips (bear scat).

Of course, we had a cake as well, which we decorated with trees, animal figurines, chocolate rocks and a National Park sign my Dad helped me create.

I decorated the food table with a few rocks, pine cones and bottle brush trees. I made some quote printables, a canvas with a National Park badge and added some National Park scenery post cards.

Overall it was a super easy party to pull together and a fun way to celebrate Grady turning 8!
